Hello everyone,

I felt like it was time to share a picture or two with you. Here are a few pictures before and after the circumcision. What do you think?

I mean, my foreskin wasn't overly long or unsightly, but I like how it looks much better now.
The only minor criticism I have is that it could be a little tighter.

@Tamara92, your reasons for considering circumcision for your boys are understandable.

As an adult who has experienced life both uncircumcised and low circumcised, I can say that I have not noticed any significant loss of sensation. It feels a little different, but for me it has been a positive change.

If you are still unsure about the style for your younger son, retaining around 1 to 1.5 cm of inner skin could be a reasonable middle ground. An experienced paediatric urologist should advise you on what is anatomically appropriate.

May I ask whether your husband is circumcised as well?

Tamara, what does your 4 year old think of his brothers low circumcised state?

If he can fully retract and is positive about how his brother looks, I think now could be a good time. Healing should be relatively quick, and a good cosmetic result can be achieved with either a high or low style.

Personally, I prefer low to moderate, with around 1-1.5 cm of inner skin left, no frenulum, and a tight result so the glans stays exposed even when flaccid.

What is your motivation for circumcising your boys?

It sounds like your wife may be gently hinting that she'd prefer you circumcised. If you're already unhappy with your foreskin, I'd seriously consider booking a consultation.

Before my circumcision, my wife said she preferred the look of an exposed glans but wasn't asking me to get circumcised. When the opportunity came up, though, she became very supportive, helped me find a surgeon and even watched the procedure.

We've both been very happy with the result ever since.

Do you find that when strangers see your whole family naked at FKK and ask about your boys’ circumcision, they react positively to your explanation?
I’m really curious - how many mothers, after watching your six boys proudly showing off their free glans and hearing why you chose circumcision, actually start to see the sense in it and later decide to have their own sons circumcised too?

@Ottoka: The topic isn't often discussed in forums like this in Australia, but it appears a lot in parenting forums. It's highly polarizing: in earlier decades parents were judged harshly for not circumcising their sons, but by the mid-90s they were judged just as harshly for choosing to circumcise them.
The decline came mainly because public hospitals stopped offering it and many doctors refused to perform it. Now there are dedicated doctors and clinics in all major cities again, so the rate is slowly rising. Even younger parents who grew up in the anti-circumcision era are choosing it now. Availability and good information make a big difference.

I fully agree with you. A circumcised penis simply looks better, is cleaner, and feels much better during sex. Women my age (90's teens) were always very open about preferring circumcised guys. No wonder so many of them still feel that way today.

Wonderful to see another lady here showing support and preference for circumcision.
What are your motivators? Is it the health and hygiene aspect, the cosmetic appearance, or all of the above?
Are you in favor of circumcision for boys/men because of past personal experiences, or is it from reading and education that you see it as beneficial for them?

@alejo You are right. In the late 70s it was still routine in Australia for boys to be circumcised before leaving the hospital, unless parents objected. My mother was firmly against it, so I kept my foreskin, and growing up with one in my generation wasn't easy.

I finally got circumcised at 36. Since then my confidence has grown, sex is much better, and the hygiene benefits are undeniable. I do have a son, but his mother was also against it, so he missed out too. Back then I wasn’t circumcised myself, which made my arguments harder.

With my second wife it would have been clear: a boy would have been circumcised. Many friends of mine chose it for their sons, so in my circle it’s almost 50/50 now. More private clinics offer circumcisions today, and the rate has risen over the past decade.

I would like to pick up on a discussion from about a year ago and briefly address the passive peer pressure that arises when the majority is circumcised.
I was born in 1978 and started primary school in 1985 - out of about 30 boys, only three, including me, still had their foreskins. I felt like an outsider and wished I was circumcised like the others. Even girls found uncircumcised boys weird or disgusting.
In my generation, circumcision was the expected norm, and yes, a circumcised majority can certainly put pressure on others to follow suit.

Do you want him circumcised to avoid future issues with his long foreskin or for the overall benefits?

I take it you are asking how to approach your son about getting circumcised because you have a preference for it?
When did you become in favour of circumcision? As others have said, ask him in a caring way if everything is working ok with his foreskin. Ask him if he knows any circumcised boys in his class or on his sports teams and find out if he would be comfortable with a circumcised penis. From there you could gently suggest you yourself think its a better look and has hygiene advantages and that you think it would be good for him and if he would like it for himself you would fully support him.

@SvenSachsen I can totally understand his concerns and negative reactions to the procedure.
But as a European male, he will be the exciting difference between his foreskin-equipped peers and will be adored by those who seek that difference. Not to mention that he is favored by young women from the US, Australia and other circumcising nations.This is something many European parents don't know: Circumcised boys are favored in Western culture outside of Europe.

There is a lot to say about your topic. Why did your wife insist on your son being circumcised?
In this difficult phase, it can help to emphasize the benefits of circumcision to show him that everything is OK. He may look different to his friends, but that will change over time.

I also think it is best to circumcise before school age, but I am unsure whether immediately after birth or at 3-5 years of age is better.
I like the idea of completely separating the foreskin from the glans before removal for an optimal cosmetic result.

People believe that without foreskin you have no feeling, no sensation and no pleasure. This is wrong and far from the truth. First of all, it's just skin. Secondly the general sensations I feel have increased.

Tell your lovely lady not to worry if you get circumcised. Urinary tract infections will disappear, your cleanliness will improve, and she'll be surprised at the sexual and visual benefits. Take the plunge, you'll only lose excess skin, but you'll gain a lot.

you really do have a growing community of mothers who are expressing a preference for circumcision on their sons. I take it you've had quite the influence in this?
Are these mothers also asking their husbands to do the same, if not done already?
It's great to see it's being more widely accepted.
