What have foreskin and a cigarette box in common?

Foreskin At first glance, the foreskin and a cigarette pack may seem completely unrelated - but surprisingly, they share one thing: surface area.

The male foreskin (prepuce in Latin) is a double layer of skin that covers and protects the glans penis (head of the penis) in uncircumcised men. What many don't know: The combined surface of the outer and inner foreskin is roughly the same size as a cigarette pack - about 40 to 50 cm2 of skin.

This skin remains moist and creates an environment where bacteria and fungi can thrive, which may lead to infections or inflammation - especially if hygiene is neglected.

Many men choose to undergo circumcision for medical, hygienic, aesthetic, or sexual reasons. During the procedure, the foreskin is fully removed, leaving the glans permanently exposed. This can lead to improved intimate hygiene,
a more comfortable body feeling, and sometimes increased self-confidence.

So whether it's a foreskin or a cigarette pack - both are types of packaging that, in many cases, you might not really need.

EURO CIRC publishes leaflets on foreskin circumcision

Faltblatt In these leaflets the essential advantages of circumcision are presented in a concise manner. In addition, a committee of 15 international experts has rounded up facts from scientific studies in "Expert Leaflets." All leaflets are aimed at men and parents as aid in the decision-making process and can be downloaded free of charge, printed out, and displayed in medical practices if required.

A snip in time

Family Parents that want to circumcise their sons for prophylactic reasons are allowed since the circumcision law to do so. The benefits of infant circumcision include prevention of urinary tract infections (a cause of renal scarring), reduction in risk of inflammatory foreskin conditions such as balanitis, foreskin injuries, phimosis and paraphimosis. When the boy later becomes sexually active he has substantial protection against risk of HIV and other viral sexually transmitted infections such as genital herpes and oncogenic human papillomavirus, as well as penile cancer. The risk of cervical cancer in his female partner(s) is also reduced.
